Dance Group Names for Crews, Competitions, and Studios

Dance group names have to do a lot in very few words: look good on a program, sound good over a microphone, and still feel like your group once the costumes and choreography change.

These ideas are built for actual crews, studios, school teams, competition groups, recital pieces, and friends who dance together, with fewer random “divas” and “dynamos” and more names you could really put on a jacket.

My favorite dance group names

  • Off Count — funny, short, and especially good for a casual crew.
  • Eight Count — clean, dance-specific, and easy to brand.
  • After the Music — a little more artistic without sounding pretentious.
  • Second Position — elegant and understated.
  • Full Out — strong for a competition or performance group.
  • Backstage Left — perfect for a theater or recital crowd.
  • One More Run — painfully familiar to anyone who rehearses.
  • In Formation — sharp enough for a team or school group.
  • The Rehearsal Room — warm and versatile.
  • Count Us In — one of my favorites for a friendly group.

How to choose a dance group name

Picture the name on a competition program, a team jacket, and an Instagram bio. If it works in all three places without needing an explanation, you are probably close.

I would also avoid naming the group around one dance style unless that style is truly permanent. Crews evolve, and a broader name gives you room to change choreography without rebranding every season.

What I would choose

Eight Count is my favorite all-purpose name because it is simple and unmistakably dance-related. For a more artistic group, After the Music stands out; for a funny crew, Off Count is hard to beat.
